It had been ages since I enjoyed a Chettinadu feast, Chettinad Stories, Chennai Exceeded Expectations!

It had been ages since I enjoyed a Chettinadu feast:

That truly wowed me and delighted my taste buds with every dish. Chettinad Stories in Chennai completely exceeded my expectations from start to finish. While I typically avoid fusion food, the fusion delights here won me over. The chef struck the perfect balance, staying true to authentic Chettinadu recipes while adding innovative twists to each dish.

CRAB RASAM:

The Crab Rasam served in martini glasses was a standout—a killer crab soup like none I’ve had in recent times. Unlike the overly spicy and peppery rasams often found in Chettinadu cuisine, this version was subtle yet packed a flavorful punch, with tiny chunks of crab meat that took it to another level.

Another highlight was the Mini Idli stuffed with Vadumanga (tender mango) pickle. Coated with podi, these mini idlis offered a tangy, astringent burst of flavor from the Vadumanga with every bite. Paired with Thakkali Thokku (tomato chutney), this dish was a treat for the palate.

Kunafa PRAWN:

The Elumichai Yera Fry (Lemon Prawn Fry) was an exceptional starter. A jumbo prawn coated in Kunafa and fried to perfection, it was elevated by a lemon butter sauce that adorned its edges. Rare and unique, this dish is a must-try at Chettinad Stories.

Meen Varuval:

The Meen Varuval (Seer Fish Fry) was another revelation. A seemingly simple fish fry transformed into an extraordinary experience when paired with an innovative lemon butter sauce. Break off a piece, dip it in the sauce, and you’re transported to culinary heaven.

For the main course, I stuck to classics like Idiyappam, Parotta, and Dosa, paired with the ever-reliable Chicken Chettinadu. The dish was a masterclass in balance, with spices perfectly blending the spicy, sour, sweet, and salty profiles. Paired with Idiyappam, it was even more delightful.

Kavuni Arisi Halwa:

The meal concluded on a high note with the star dessert: Kavuni Arisi Halwa (black rice halwa). Each spoonful was pure joy, showcasing that Indian desserts can stand toe-to-toe with their Western counterparts. Subtly sweetened with jaggery and enhanced by the nutty flavor of Kavuni Arisi and dry fruits, it was a revelation.

The team at Chettinad Stories has proven that fusion food can be done without compromising the essence of a cuisine. They’ve truly succeeded in delivering an unforgettable dining experience.

One Liner, i loved it totally! A fantastic satisfying Sunday lunch at Thahira Hotel, Kanchipuram!

One Liner, i loved it totally! A fantastic satisfying Sunday lunch at Thahira Hotel, Kanchipuram! Being a Sunday, and Pongal festival round the corner, the town was just chaotic! Traffic all over. We struggled to drive, forget parking! A huge crowd waiting to be seated. Biryani parcelled in Mandaral Ilai was disappearing at lightning speed! Amidst all this chaos, we patiently waited to be seated on the first floor. We got a table in about 15 minutes. Quickly ordered all that was given as choices: Chicken Biryani x4 Mutton Fry Chicken Fry Paaya Fry Kuska Biryani was served piping hot! Took a while to even touch it! Chicken pieces in it were super soft and well cooked. Long-grained Basmati Rice, not too spicy, just the right flavour. Reminded me a bit of Charminar Biryani, Royapettah! The gravy served as accompaniment was super tasty! Poured it over the hard boiled egg, it was yumm! Onion Raita was good too, and they were generous with both these items. Chicken Fry was ...
