House of Idlies, in Bazullah Road is definitely one of my favorite places for vegetarian South-Indian food:

Love some of their unique dishes which no other veg restaurant in the city serves, like Morkali, crispy seppankizhangu Fry, Javvarisi vadaam mor, and so on.

Thayirsaadham Thiruvizha - Poster:

When i saw their poster on 'Thayirsaadham Thiruvizha', the humble thayir sadham served with ten different accompaniments, I was quite excited! I generally love curd rice, and what better comfort food than curd rice, during Summers!

Ordered one 'Thayirsaadham Thiruvizha' curd rice, and the first appearance took me a little by surprise as the quantity of the curd rice looked less than what i had anticipated. Anyways, started to eat.



Top notch Curries served with piping hot rice:


Vengaayam Vaththa Kuzhambu, Mor Molaga, Maambazham, Pachamilagaai Mandi, cut-mango pickle, UrulaiKizhangu poriyal, thengaai podi, Maavadu oorga, manga pieces and appalam were the accompaniments to Thayirsaadham.

The curd rice was very tasty, absolutely not sour, fresh and tasted like kovil prasadham. Every single accompaniment tasted good. . Finished the curd rice in a jiffy, was hardly enough. I was told you get a refill once in a bowl. The quantity wasn't much, but still better than no refill. At this point, perhaps a normal eater would be okay, definitely wasn't still enough for me.

Ordered a Kambankoozh. Tasted good with cut onions and cut-mango pickle as side. It felt good after this.

Pricing:

Coming to the pricing, I felt it could have been a bit more competitively priced. Thayir saadham was priced at 180 bucks, the price point for which you get Full meals in quite a few places, or perhaps for a little more.. Well, its only my humble opinion and the establishment must be having good reasons to price it so. Also felt the quantity should have been more filling. Again, my perspective!

Paid 257 bucks in all, good comfort food for Summers! Definitely good to try if you aren't too worried about the price.

One Liner, i loved it totally! A fantastic satisfying Sunday lunch at Thahira Hotel, Kanchipuram! Being a Sunday, and Pongal festival round the corner, the town was just chaotic! Traffic all over. We struggled to drive, forget parking! A huge crowd waiting to be seated. Biryani parcelled in Mandaral Ilai was disappearing at lightning speed! Amidst all this chaos, we patiently waited to be seated on the first floor. We got a table in about 15 minutes. Quickly ordered all that was given as choices: Chicken Biryani x4 Mutton Fry Chicken Fry Paaya Fry Kuska Biryani was served piping hot! Took a while to even touch it!
