Sunday lunch buffet at Spice Haat, Hyatt Regency, Chennai ! A Special Occasion Calls for a big treat:
A great experience at Spice Haat, Hyatt Regency, Chennai. All lip smacking dishes at great atmosphere:
Review:
After a quick tour of the buffet counters, two things were obvious. Like Carnaby in The ResidencyTowers, starters especially kebabs weren't on the buffet counter. Instead, you ask for it, they serve it on the table. Likewise, unlike the lavish dessert spread in Sheraton Grand, here the dessert spread was very limited and on top of it, you had to ask the person to serve. It wasnt placed in the way you could help yourself. Please read the dessert experience below.
They had a very elaborate chaat counter and they served us a little more than what we expected.
Pani Puri, Dahi papdi, Dahi Puri, Samosa channa, and Palak Chaat.
Just one request, please get puris without holes. Not one of them could hold water without leaking.
The soup of the day was Thukpa, the broth itself was veg, but there were veg and non-veg toppings. I helped myself with veggies and noodles. Liked it.
Grilled veggies were served on the table. Except paneer, rest were good. Took a while to make out paneer coated with a Tangy tomato gravy, it was very hard.
Pad Thai and Himalayan Millet Kichidi were made in live counters and served on the table. Liked both of them, but couldn't understand what was Himalayan about the kichdi.
Masala Cola as a mocktail was refreshing! We did help ourselves with a few glasses throughout the meal. The liquor bottles was nice to watch!
Grilled Chicken and Malai Paneer Tikka were served on the table. This paneer was soft and fantastic. I was told Chicken was soft and succulent.
Tasted a little of veg chowmein with veg Manchurian Balls. Noodles was good, veg Manchurian Gravy was okayish. Kashmiri Pulav was good and Dungar veg Biryani was tasty with a dominating smokey flavor as expected. Family tasted some non-veg Biryanis and it was pretty good, they said.
Except the ice cream and a few select items, desserts were a dampener i would say. Paan ice cream was good. Mysorepak and motichoor laddu were fantastic. Thats it. Chocolate cake was rock hard, Watermelon panna cotta was a poor excuse for one. The layer on the top and consistency of panna cotta, both were way off. Didnt eat beyond a spoonful. Lemon Tart was unpalatably sour, and Red velvet cake was hard again. Definitely not the way i remember desserts during my earlier visits to this place, left a lot to be desired.
.
Finally, a birthday cake. Yes, they provided an ice cream cake and made my son's birthday special and memorable. As I've mentioned, the service was very courteous and at least twice a couple of chefs checked if everything was good and if we wanted something. The person who waited on the table was very helpful from clearing the plates to refilling water.
It was a very pleasant dining experience.
